Morinaga produces well-known probiotics, such as Bifidobacterium longum BB536, one of the most widely recognized probiotics in the world. Through Morinaga’s extensive research for more than 40 years, BB536 has become one of the world’s most well-documented human Bifidobacteria. BB536 was granted GRAS certification in the US in 2007. Morinaga produces not only BB536, but also other lines of probiotics at its hazard analysis and critical control points (HACCP) certified facility in Japan.

Lactoferrin is one of the most important components of mother’s milk. As an infant formula manufacturer, Morinaga studied human milk and discovered the wonderful benefits of lactoferrin. Today, food producers throughout the world use lactoferrin as a nutritional additive to such products as infant formula, supplements and yogurt. A leader in lactoferrin research, Morinaga shares our extensive research information on this beneficial ingredient with our valued customers.

Morinaga possesses special technology for the production of milk protein hydrolysates. We produce hydrolysates and hypoallergenic formulas with extremely low allergenicity for infants with allergies. Usually milk protein hydrolysates have a bitter taste due to the presence of a specific hydrophobic peptide. However, Morinaga’s hydrolysates are both palatable and hypoallergenic because of our unique combination of enzymatic hydrolysis and purification processes. In addition to infant formula, Morinaga uses these hydrolysates in clinical nutrition, supplements, meal replacements and sports nutrition. Furthermore, Morinaga produces other hydrolysates that provide functions such as antioxidation, heat stability, emulsification, foaming activity and anti-microbial activity.

The high quality of Morinaga Lactulose makes it suitable for use in pharmaceuticals and food applications in many countries of the world. Lactulose is most often used as an ingredient in laxatives and beverages designed to offer improved regularity for people troubled by constipation. Also,it works as a Bifidus factor, meaning it increases the quantity of Bifidobacterium in the intestine. The product applications of lactulose vary depending on regulations in the countries where is it sold. In Japan, certain beverages that contain Morinaga lactulose have obtained Food for Specified Health Use (FOSHU) status, a seal of approval from Japan's Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare.
